2022 Russian River Valley "Two Acres" Red Wine
100% Field blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Carignan, Peloursin, Alicante Bouschet, and Zinfandel
A somewhat below average 3.8 tons were picked on September 29th, relatively early for this 2-acre, 112-year-old vineyard. 23% of the fruit was not destemmed to add more structure and spice to the wine. After a 5-day cold soak, the must was inoculated for primary fermentation. On October 20th, the wine was pressed to all French oak, only 10% new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Medium-dark garnet-ruby. A complex nose of fraises des bois and woodsy forest floor are accented by a light note of creosote and a dusting of fragrant cinnamon (interestingly, cinnamon is a common thread amongst our 2022s). The wine slips across the palate, offering flavors of red berries and cream before gentle tannins emerge in the long, seductive finish. Texturally, so sublime. As unique, compelling, and delicious as ever. Enjoy from release through 2040. (MRO - 07/16/25)
