2007 Knights Valley "Pelkan Ranch" Syrah
Located at 1000’ elevation on a rocky ridge top, the fruit was picked October 4th. Fully destemmed, the must was cold soaked for 5 days prior to inoculation. At approximately 5 brix, the wine was pressed to finish fermentation in French oak, 50% new. Lightly fined with one egg white per barrel but bottled unfiltered.
Black ruby-purple. Aromas of blackberry, creosote, and violets are at once concentrated yet brooding. A full-bodied entry leads to a wave of dark berry yumminess. Pleasing tannins and acidity on the finish give away the wine’s mountain heritage. As with previous vintages, a wine that will reward handsomely with aging. Drink 2011 through 2025. (MRO – 07/17/09)
