A fine year for our Grüner! 1.4 tons from the older terraced block were picked on September 9th while 2.2 tons from the slightly younger vines on the lower hill were picked on September 13th.  Two cultured strains of yeast were used, Veltliner (an obvious choice!), which helps promote fruity and spicy aromas, and D576, a German Riesling isolate, that enhances fruit flavors.  As usual, no malolactic fermentation to preserve acidity and freshness.  Partly aged in stainless steel but new to this vintage, also aged in a traditional Austrian oval oak upright to add more textural interest.  Unfined but filtered for bottle stability.

Tasting Note:

Light golden-yellow.  Clove-accented aromas of green apple, chamomile, and lime zest flow from the glass.  Medium-bodied, flavors of apple, gooseberry, and a slight suggestion of vanilla dance across the palate.  Rounder and texturally more alluring than previous versions but no less age-worthy.  Drink this delightful white from release through 2030.
