If one of the marks of a grand cru vineyard is consistency, then Palisades Vineyard surely checks the box.  Under the meticulous farming of Jim Munk, year in and year out, the old vines of Palisades Vineyard crank out one winner after the next.  Our 2019 is no exception.  Picked September 30th at 26.9 Brix, the fully destemmed fruit was cold-soaked for 5 days before inoculation for fermentation.  Although dry by October 15th, the wine remained on the skins for another month to create a softer mouthfeel.  Pressed to all French oak, 25% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Note:

Striking black-purple in color. Glass staining. Powerful, heady aromas of blackberry confiture, black licorice, spice box, and new leather. On the palate, luscious and concentrated but also surprisingly elegant and seamless, especially for Petite Sirah. A wine of great purity and joy. Conventional wisdom says you shouldn’t touch Petite Sirah for 15 to 20 years but this drinks so well now that I see little reason to wait. Enjoy from release with hearty foods through 2035.
