2012 Sonoma Mountain "Steiner Vineyard" Grüner Veltliner

100% Grüner Veltliner

pH: 3.18
T.A.: 6.8 g/L
Alcohol: 14.1%
Cases Produced: 92

We were thrilled with the feedback on our inaugural release of this wine last year, especially from those familiar with Smaragd (the ripest level for dry wines produced in the Wachau) Grüners from Austria.  Many felt that while obviously Californian in its exuberance of fruit, the flavors and aromas clearly spoke of Grüner Veltliner.  An additional acre has been planted at the vineyard so hopefully we can increase production a bit and get this special wine into more hands.

Sonoma Mountain "Steiner Vineyard" Grüner Veltliner

Tasting Note:

Medium-light green-yellow.  Aromas of pineapple, white grapefruit, dried hay, and white peppercorn make for quite a sniff.  Aristocratic and juicy in the mouth, the wine offers flavors of green mango, yellow plum, and spice.  Finishes long with impressive clarity and cut.  Compared to the 2011, seems more Austrian and a little less Californian.  Optimum enjoyment for this wine should be from release through 2018.
