2010 Russian River Valley "Two Acres" Red Wine
81% Mourvèdre
8% Petite Sirah/Peloursin
5% Syrah
5% Carignane
1% Alicante Bouschet
If the mark of a great vineyard, a Grand Cru, is to produce superior wine regardless of vintage, then Two Acres ranks among the best of them. The Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Peloursin were picked on October 16th. The Mourvèdre, Carignane, and Alicante Bouschet were picked on October 20th. The following spring, post malolactic fermentation, the two components were blended together and bottled unfined and unfiltered after 15 months aging in all French oak, 15% new.
Tasting Note:
Medium-dark ruby-garnet. Intense aromas of red cherries and black raspberries are complemented by suggestions of forest floor, red licorice, and spring flowers. Very compelling! On entry, quite harmonious with a luscious, mouth-coating texture. But at 14.7%, not at all heavy or tiring. Finishes long with gentle tannins and sound acidity. While certainly enjoyable now, like other Two Acres, this wine will age exceptionally well. Enjoy from 2014 through 2024. (MRO – 07/18/12)
