Our
Dry Creek syrah hails exclusively from the iron-rich soils of
Ray Teldeschi's
ranch, high up on the eastern side of the valley. In the
past, this vineyard constituted the lion's share of our one
syrah, ranging from 60% in 1999 to 100% in 2000. As with our
other syrahs, the wine was pressed sweet to finish fermentation
in French oak, 33% new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note: Dark purple. Captivating
aromas of blackberry, blueberry, smoked meats, and mocha. Even
a hint of new saddle leather. A great sniff! In the mouth, rich
and full-bodied, with plenty of blackberry fruit through the
lasting finish. Imminently drinkable now but best between mid
2006 and 2009. (MRO - 8/7/05)
