While 2001 was particularly strong for Zinfandel in the Russian River Valley, it was Dry Creek Valley's turn to shine in 2002. This year's rendition is a bit of a departure for us. While still predominantly Ray Teldeschi's old-vine zin (planted circa 1885), we also included some "young-vine" Zinfandel (planted in 1954) from the Mounts Ranch, directly across the valley on the west side. The two blended together were a perfect match in this vintage. Think East meets West. Yin and Yang. And of course, what would Dry Creek zin be without some Pet? Nineteen percent Petite Sirah was included in the final blend for color and structure.

Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel

Tasting Note:

Very dark ruby, nearly opaque. Heady, perfumed aromas of black cherry with background notes of vanilla and spice. Very deep. Mouthwatering. The wine enters full and rich followed by a massive wave of black cherry fruit. Tannins and acidity are in perfect balance on the finish. Enjoy this rich, decadent wine from release through 2009. Our finest Dry Creek Zinfandel to date. (MRO - 11/4/03)
