Our penultimate Zin of the vintage, a modest but literally perfect looking 3.3 tons were picked on October 6th from 1.75 acres.  Fully destemmed, the fruit was cold soaked for 5 days before an uninoculated fermentation began.  Rossi always cooperates and ferments very well without direct inoculation.  After 21 days on the skins, the wine was gently pressed to all French oak, 20% new.  As usual, unfined and unfiltered.

Sonoma Valley "Rossi Ranch" Zinfandel

Tasting Note:

Translucent medium ruby-garnet.  A heavenly nose of cherries, brown tobacco, and a hint of the Rossi garrigue (the smell of the surrounding forest and vegetation).  On the palate, full-bodied with flavors of red cherry, bittersweet chocolate, and herbs.  Chalky tannins in the finish indicate plenty of development ahead.  If you enjoy your Zins on the primary and youthful side, drink up!  Otherwise, give it another year and enjoy 2025 through 2033.
