21% Petite Sirah, Del Carlo Ranch

pH: 3.68

The century-old vines at our Dry Creek Valley source produced their lowest yields ever in 1999. However, with a cool fall, the grapes were allowed to hang longer than usual, retaining wonderful acidity and tannin. As last year, the Petite was co-fermented with the Zinfandel. Bottled unfined and unfiltered after 16 months aging.

Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel

Tasting Note:

Medium dark ruby with aromas of cherry, vanilla, rose, and a slight toast. Perhaps even an element of tar as in a Barolo or Barberesco. On the palate, the wine performs an incredible balancing act between power and grace. Think Nuryev or Baryshnikov. 15.4% alcohol has never been so light on its feet. We suspect this wine will age well, drinking best 3 to 7 years from vintage date. Classic Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel! (MRO - 11/17/00)
