We typically pick our two blocks of Bedrock Zinfandel at least several days apart but in this vintage, both blocks seemed to be on the same pace.  As a result, we picked the two blocks on September 1st and fermented them in a single tank.  Bedrock Vineyard always produces one of our most structured Zinfandels but the addition of a bit of old-vine Mourvèdre (also planted in 1888) seems to really add refinement to the palate without diminishing the “zinniness” of the wine.  Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
 
Tasting Note: This wine introduces itself with notes of mint, beef carpaccio, pomegranate and crushed rose petal – intriguing and evolving over time with air.  Revealing an intense volume on the palate, this is a wine very much driven by dark fruit signatures.  Blackberry pie notes, yield to dark chocolate and black licorice flavors.  A burly wine that will require a few years before settling into form, but the adventurous early-drinkers among you will admire its power in the short term.  Drink 2019 – 2028.
