Humma! Humma! Our third vintage of James Berry Syrah and hands down our favorite. This is exactly the syrah I dreamed of producing when Justin Smith, owner of James Berry Vineyard, planted our block in 2002. Unfortunately though, despite the vines being seven years old, our two-acre block barely produced a total of 1.4 tons. Hence, we have less than ever to offer. Fermented indigenously. Aged in all French oak, 33% new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Paso Robles "James Berry Vineyard" Syrah

Tasting Note:

Inky, dark purple-garnet. Opaque. Rich, heady scents of blackberry, blueberry, chalky earth, and violet pastilles. Full-bodied but with a lightness that belies its size, no doubt due to the highly calcareous soils. There are tannins present but they are overwhelmed by the abundant blue and black fruit. Depending on whether you prefer your wine young or old, enjoy this powerful, delicious Syrah anytime between 2011 and 2025. (MRO – 08/01/10)
