After the soft, seductive 2003, we’re back to full-throttle, pedal-to-the-metal Dry Creek zinfandel. This is heady stuff! Perhaps the difference lies in the petite sirah component, 25% in 2004 vs. 5% in the 2003. Aged in all French oak, 30% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note: Dark ruby. Verging on opaque. Deep, dark aromas of black cherries, iron, earth, and herbs. Screams Dry Creek! On the palate, rich, full-bodied, but not at all oafish or ponderous. Plenty of structure and muscle to ensure years of development. Superb balance. Drink between 2007 and 2011. (MRO – 1/28/06)
