Pietro's Ranch – Russian River Valley
This vineyard was planted in 1905 by Italo Barbieri for his brother Pietro. From a small village in Tuscany, Italo was responsible for planting many of the vineyards in the Piner/Olivet region in the early 1900s. Although only a quarter mile north of Carlo's Ranch, soils here are much shallower, resulting in miniscule yields but extremely concentrated fruit. This vineyard has a treasure trove of varieties to complement the zinfandel - alicante bouschet, grand noir de la Calmette, syrah, petite sirah, carignane, and grenache to name a few. There are even a few varieties we have yet to identify! Picking is usually mid to late October.
Unfortunately, 2006 was the last vintage for this vineyard.
